Alan Lacer

Describing the wonders of the Skew Chisel

Alan using wood block to discuss sharpening choices for the Skew

Using roughing gouge to prepare the blank prior to smoothing with the skew

Using the skew to creat a pommel transition from the square stock to the round segment

Egg shape formed with the skew chisel

The audience in rapt attention

Al and Warren critically examing Lacer's work

Alan getting ready to heat the tool blanks and quench in olive oil after he bends the hook shape.

He watches the color of the metal as it heats to guage when it is hot enough to bend. At the next step when it is reheated with the Propane torch he wants it hot, but not too hot, to temper or remove some of the brittleness.

The finished hook tool ready to use

Hollowing out the inside of a box with the newly made hook tool

Finished lidded box

Small top made with the skew and then colored by a marbleizing technique.

Martha and Al watching intently.
