The Wood Book [The link at Yale has changed and now goes to the search page for their combined collections: type in Hough in the search bar and you will get 14 pages which will link to the images. This also allows searches for specific wood species.] This is an online version from Yale University with amazing images of wood species. . It has photos of radial, tangential and transverse sections of about 275 American trees. The book is also published by Taschen as The Woodbook as a reprint of American Woods. Culled and assembled by Romeyn Beck Hough between 1888 and 1913 in what still remains a stunning and unparalleled achievement. Originally published in 14 volumes, with actual specimens mounted on card stock, it is a work of breathtaking beauty that has set the standard for study of trees and wood. Taschen’s Woodbook reproduces, in painstaking facsimile, all of the specimen pages from the original volumes. British Trees This site show wood species from the UK. Woodturners resource Was originally started by the Antelope Valley Woodturner's Association. The AVWA site is at Antelope Valley Woodturner's Association. Forest Products Laboratory in Madison, Wisconsin was established in 1910 by the U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service, serving the public as the nation's leading wood research institute.
